Rice is a staple in many types of cuisines, and though it seems simple, undercooked or overcooked rice can ruin a meal. Notes

  • For long-grain white rice: 1 cup of rice to 2 cups water. For short-grain white rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 1/4 cup of water. For brown rice: 1 cup of rice to 1 3/4 cup of water.
  • Rinse your rice before you cook it!
  • Season the rice with salt after it goes into the pot (butter or olive oil can also be added).
  • Trust the timing – don’t raise the lid to check on it until it’s done.
  • Remove the pot from the heat at the end of the cooking time and let it steam, covered, for another 5-10 minutes to make it extra fluffy.
